I hate that my 120gb Zune doesn't work on the MAC because that is my preferred computer; however, Apple did the same thing originally until they got smart! It's a hassle, but I have to first sync my music to my Blackberry Storm, then sync it to the MAC to use musician-related programs on the MAC. Then, I have to take it off of the Blackberry to save the memory. I wouldn't trade my Zune for an Ipod under any circumstances. I still need the memory of the Zune (as an aspiring musician). Plus, I see all of the issues that my 15 year old experiences with her Ipod Touch. If MS would let us use the Zune on the MAC, I'd personally be in 7th heaven! Sure I use PCs for my day job, paying the bills, etc. etc. One thing that I strive to do is to make things easier for people to use. That includes removing as many technical barriers as possible. The systems have to work whether the user is on a PC, Mac, or Unix box. The site has to respond reasonably well on IE, Firefox, etc. So when my wife won a Zune and gave it to my son, I was asked to sync it up. The problem? Their computer is a Mac and Zune doesn't work with a Mac (the little XJMB hack to read files is useless if the Zune is empty to start with). The only other solution is to try to use a PC with Windows installed, or a virtual machine with Windows installed. That's a $200 license I'd rather not have to pay and the install disk I have won't work with Parallels. My PC is dead. The USB ports won't work, the firewire port doesn't work, I can barely bring Windows up to copy files. If the Mac is the only working hardware, how do I make the Zune work? It's already too hard. It is absolutely feasible on a technical level, but as with 90% of the "hard" problems the issue isn't technical. It's a strange world where Apple owns the portable music player market and Microsoft owns the desktop market. You'd think Microsoft would learn from the one thing Apple did right: you don't have to use Mac OS to use the iPod. Probably most people aren't going to switch platforms, but the very idea that you could makes people more at ease.
