Zune desktop software completely locked up, unable to sync any content....unable to uninstall, reinstall or ANYTHING.

So I solved my problem the easy way, took a hammer to it.

Just placed an order for a 160GB iPod.

Will never use another MSFT Media Device EVAR.

What a complete failure of a device.

Have fun sucking Apples wind!

Bye Zune, Welcome to my Hammer!

Bye Zune, Welcome to my Hammer!

Sorry to hear of your difficulties.  Sweet pics though!  Even though MY Zune still 'functions' after the update, I'm considering taking a hammer to mine, too.  The firmware/software update simply SUCKS more than I could have possibly ever imagined.  I realize there are ways to downgrade, but I'm not bothering to jump through the 15 hoops required to do so.  I don't think I'm that computer savvy, so I'd probably brick the frigging thing trying.  Already lost half my music collection from my PC in an effort to get the update functioning properly.  Admittedly, this IS my fault, but I wouldn't have f*cked up if the upgrade wasn't such a piece of SH*T in the first place.  I LOVED my Zune till the 'update'.  Now I'm thinking iPod too (I can't believe it).

I feel your pain.

The Zune was a gift from a colleague who bricked it, so I was definitely willing to give it a fair shake.

Now i have the Altec Lansing dock on craigslist, LOL.

Peace out!

Are you still holding that hammer? I hope you won't get mad that I posted it in the frontpage:

I'm absolutely crushed about the whole thing.  This was my first 'serious' media player, and it's only two weeks old.  My Sansa e260 is much easier to load with files (but the sound quality of the Sansa suffers compared to the Zune, even after Rockboxing).  I was just getting used to tolerating all the 'syncing' B.S., then they go and f*ck it up even worse.  I really like the form factor of the Zune itself, but the new software/firmware turns it into a frustrating POS.  Not that the old software/firmware was any prize winner, but it was lightyears better than the new.  I was about to buy each of my kids a Zune 30 for Xmas, because I was so pleased with it (until the update).  That won't be happening now.

I feel your pain.... I saw the pics and was thinking about the samething.  I spent a few hours attempting to mine connected.  I gave up and the next morning it started working.  Now I have about 1000 songs, but the software only recognizes 127.  Many uninstalls and reinstalls.  This software sucks.

When is someone going to develop a 3rd party program to use instead?

Such as Rockbox?  Probably never, unless the new Zunes increase the popularity of the brand very significantly (I'm keeping my fingers crossed).

EDIT:  Doh!  Regarding Rockbox, I was thinking FIRMWARE, not SOFTWARE.  My bad.  The firmware is OK (but could be better).  And the software could be MUCH better.  Still keeping my fingers crossed!!
