AARC's Linda Bocchi: [...] "But Zune is going in another direction. People can record off of FM radio, and share from one Zune player to another. It's moving away from the direction set by the iPod, and it's a grey area"...
The story behind this statement is that AARC is seeking a way to apply a tax which has to do with recording devices in US on Zune. But Zune is not a recording device or is it ? Linda Bocchi, AARC's executive director, says its not the same device as Rio player or iPod, because of the sharing feature it has and because it is capable recording of the radio. I am not sure if AARC's claims are right but Zune cannot record from the radio. So AARC's director is wrong here? Or this could mean Microsoft is about to introduce recording in Zune with a firmware update?! Zune's processor is powerfull enough to record and encode in wma music and shows from the radio. Technically speaking this is possible. Reading more from TheRegister's Andrew Orlowski article, Linda Bocchi knows what she is talking about: In fact, the portable players that record digital satellite radio in the US - sold by XM and Sirius - already pay an AHRA, says Bocchi. A misunderstanding or a new feature leak? |
