How to update your Zune 30 to v2 Software

Zune 2 Players ReviewsMicrosoft released a couple of articles to help both new and old players owners to get updated to Zune Software/Firmware v2. You should know that either with an old or new player you'll have to visit www.zune.net/setup to get updated or run the "check for updates" command from the current Zune Software. How to update to the current Zune device software version

To install the current Zune device software, follow these steps:

1.If you are a new Zune customer, install the Zune software that was included with the Zune device or visit http://www.zune.net/setup (http://www.zune.net/setup) to obtain and install the software.

If you are an existing customer, update the Zune software by clicking Help on the Options menu and then by clicking Check for Updates. If you do not see the Options menu, you already have the current version installed.
2.Connect the Zune device to a Windows-based computer by using the Zune sync cable. Use a USB port on the back of the computer. Do not use a USB hub.

You receive a "To start, update the Zune software on your PC at www.zune.net/setup" message when you connect a Zune device

Beginning November 13, 2007, to resolve this issue, follow these methods in the order that they appear:

Method 1: Update the Zune software

Beginning November 13, 2007, you can update the Zune software that is installed on the computer. To update the Zune software, do one of the following:
In the Zune software, click Settings, click GENERAL, and then click CHECK FOR UPDATES.
Visit the following Zune Web site to download and install the current version of the Zune software:

Method 2: Update the Zune driver software

To update the Zune driver software, follow these steps:
1.In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type Devmgmt.msc, and then click OK.

In Windows Vista, click Startthe Start button, type device manager in the Start Search box, and then click Device Manager in the Programs list.

 User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
2.Expand Portable Devices.
3.Right-click Zune, and then click Properties.
4.On the Driver tab, notice the driver date information under Driver Provider. If the driver is dated 12/1/2006 or earlier, go to the next step. If the driver is dated later than 12/1/2006, go to the next method.
5.On the Driver tab, click Update Driver, and then click Search automatically for updated driver software.
6.If the driver software installation is completed successfully, click Close. If Windows did not automatically find drivers for the Zune device, go to the next step.
7.On the Driver tab, click Update Driver, and then click Browse my computer for driver software.
8.Click Browse, locate the \Zune\Drivers\Zune folder, and then click Next.

Note By default, the Zune drivers are located in the C:\Program Files\Zune\Drivers\Zune folder.
9.After the driver software installation is completed successfully, click Close.

Method 3: Reinstall the Zune driver software

To resolve this issue, uninstall and then reinstall the Zune software.

Note When you reinstall the Zune software, connect the Zune device to the computer when you are prompted to do this.
