Microsoft officially supports Zune on Windows, but the libmtp open source library is the way Zune can be supported on Linux and Macintosh. There is partial support now which only lists the contents of the Zune player. Zune can connect and sync on Windows running on a VMware Fusion Beta virtual machine on Mac OS X. Latest beta version of Parallels (alternative for VMware) also supports connecting Zune on a Mac running Windows XP in Parallels.
Reading on jkOnTheRun, he had a problem with audio not playing on Zune Software on Vista. A possible cause could be the DRM of Vista. So he tried it on Parallels virtual machine running Vista on top of Mac OS X. And it worked fine on a MacBook Pro...
It is possible to run Zune Software under windows running in VMware on Linux. There is only USB 1.1 support and you need to unload the USB 2.0 kernel module from linux.
