ImTOO has released 2 products, a DVD to Zune converter and a multiformat Video to Zune converter. Here is a review of both products...
DVD to Zune ConverterIt shows the available chapters of the DVD and the user selects which ones to encode for Zune. ImTOO uses wmv3 and wma2 codecs. The default bitrate of the videos produced is 1200 kbps. You can lower it to 768 or less but the quality is not acceptable (at least to me). After you install it I suggest you go to Settings -> Preferences and change the volume to about 1.2, as the default 3.0 is to loud and you get distortion in the sound. If you select the chapters you want to encode the program can detect the optimal value for this by oressing the "Detect" button. Then you can change the bitrate and other option from the side menu of the application for each chapter you have selected for transcoding. There is a video preview windows to help on the selection. Now you are a click away from getting your wmv video for Zune. Just click the red record button.
You can buy it for $29.
Zune Video ConverterThis is a similar product in look and feel which will convert many supported codecs to Zune compatible wmv. The supported formats are WAV, MP2, AC3, CUE, APE, CDA, AVI, DivX, XviD, MPEG, MP4, WMV, MOV, RM, RMVB, ASF, VOB, 3GP, iPod, PSP, etc. The outout codecs used for audio and video are also wmv3/wma2.
But you can also use the very helpful Wizard to select your videos to convert but also the starting and ending point of the conversion in each video.
You can have ImTOO Video Converter for $29.
I believe the 1200 kbps bitrate creates big video files, if you want a good quality. But generally ImTOO has two simple to use Zune products without many technical details to configure. If you need both you can purchasing the Zune Converter Suite which includes them, for $45. Find more on ImTOO website: DVD to Zune Converter Zune Video Converter Zune Converter Suite
