Thats what happens when you lose a bet. Microsoft's Zune boss, J. Allard (in photo) back in 2005 when still at the Xbox project claimed that Sony PSP wouldn't sell 10 million devices before the Playstation does. And he was wrong...
From 1up : First, a little history. In 2005, Newsweek writer N'Gai Croal and then-Xbox executive J. Allard made a bet about the PSP, contingent on whether the machine could surpass 10 million units faster than PlayStation 2 did. Allard denied the possibility and N'Gai threw down the gauntlet: if PSP eclipsed PS2's race to 10M, Allard could shave N'Gai's dreads, but if not, Allard was required to speak on stage wearing dreads. Turns out Allard lost that bet, but his transition to the Zune music platform within Microsoft meant he didn't present alongside the rest of Microsoft's executive repertoire during their E3 2006 presentation and N'Gai's bet tumble din the wind. Now, 360 days after the original bet, Allard has finally owned up -- completely.
Some before and after comparisons: Before:
After: I suppose J. Allards next bet will be about the fastest selling Zune: Hard-Disk or Flash-Memory. Which one would you bet on? Read more on 1up. See J. Allard's "new " bio and full story (in some days it will be back to normal). J. Allard's normal bio on Zune.net [via ZuneNewsSite ]
