JJ Richards, the general manager of Xbox Live service, said no music will be offered to gamers through the service. Microsoft believes music is already implemented in theconsloe, as users can access tracks on their Computer using the Zune Software. On the other hand the video marketplace will start expanding to Europe at a rate of a couple countries at a time...
From ComputerAndVideoGames : "Right now we feel like we already have music on the console," he told CVG in a recent interview. "Unlike hi-def video no one has a problem accessing music and it's totally simple to play it through the Xbox 360, with the screensaver or over your games.
"It all goes back to the whole rights issue and what you can do and where you can do it. What I would expect to happen is we're going to think about different factors and different ways to get that content to the console. "Right now we feel like we already have music on the console versus not on the console. Unlike hi-def video no one has a problem accessing music and it's totally simple to play it through the Xbox 360, with the screensaver or over your games."
Of course Zune users are interested for the opposite: Video content on Zune Marketplace. Also the mix of the two Marketplaces could be positive for both worlds, bringing music to Xbox gamers and Video content to Zune owners. Chances are it will happen sometime in the future as part of the "connected entertainment" concept of Microsoft, but let hope we'll see videos available before that step.
