Zune 30 battery problems Firmware Upgrade

According to ZuneInsider an update to fix minor issues like the Zune 30 battery problem a few of you have. We shouldln't be expecting any new features, this once is going to be like the last year's firmware update in December (v1.2) when a couple problems were fixed too. On the other surprises are always welcome! ...

Good news for Zune 30 users! Following the Nov 13 firmware upgrade, a lot of people are noting an improvement in battery life. To achieve this, we improved the Zune 30 codecs so they are more power-efficient, hence the better battery life.
That said, we have seen some reports of a separate battery issue related to the upgrade. This problem occurs when users suspend their Zune hard drives by holding down the play/pause button – in some cases the battery continues to drain. It seems to be affecting only a small percentage of Zune users at this point, but we’re working on including it in our December update (similar to last year) – stay tuned for details and specifics.

A way to try fixing this problem is available here but I'm not sure if it works in all cases:

Here's a twist on the play/pause battery issue. If the Zune is put in hibernation by pressing and holding the play/pause button it will then not turn on again. It will also not enter the charging state. It pretty much is a brick. The only way I have found to get around this problem is to wait for the power to drain to the point that the "Battery with !" display appears. Apparently pressing and holding the play/pause button accelerates the battery discharge. Once the Zune is in the "Battery with !" state, it can be recharged and everything will operate normally until the Zune is placed in hibernation again using the play/pause button. I discovered this on December 24th prior to wrapping it as a gift. I have searched forums looking for a solution. I only found this issue mentioned once in one forum without a solution specified. Restarting with Back and Up does not work. Nothing works except draining the battery. I even tried wiping the Zune with the Back Left Center. The firmware was reinstalled but the problem persists and can be reproduced consistently. I wish there was a way to turn back time to Version 1.3 as I think this is related to the "fixes." Hopefully someone at Microsoft hears about this problem soon.
This applies to the Zune 30 with Firmware 2.3.

I have had the same problem with Zune 80 on 2.3 firmware. I never figured out a fix and I bought mine just after christmas with some money I got. It worked fine for 2 days, even with hibernation, but it started once i updated it from 2.2 firmware and now i cant get it to come on. Anyone have any clues on how long it takes to drain??

Zune 30 Will Not Turn On After Entering Sleep Mode

I would like to offer an update on the Play/Pause Issue. I now have version 3.0 of the firmware and the behavior has not changed. I do have a quicker way of fixing the problem but it involves opening the Zune. Disconnecting and then reconnecting the battery causes the Zune to operate properly until it enters sleep mode again, either automatically or manually by pressing and holding the play/pause button. To prevent entering sleep mode automatically turn off the Zune by pressing the Back Button and the Down Button. Do not let the Zune sit idly not playing music.
