Zune on Mac using VMware Print E-mail
Written by Kostas Tzounopoulos

VMware Fusion Beta for MacSome good news for Mac and Zune connectivity. The new VMware Fusion version for Mac (still in beta) is capable running Windows and syncing Zune player...

Justin Richards is a member of our forum who tried to install the Zune Software on a Mac using VMware to run Windows XP on OS X. It works fine!

VMware is a virtualization program. You can run another Operating System on your computer concurrently with your main one. You can learn more about it on www.vmware.com.

Zune looks to connect using USB2.0 high speed on VMware for Mac. Unfortunately you can't do this on the Linux & VMware solution . At least not until the version 6 is released, which will support USB2.0 .

Check some screenshots below. Click on these for the big version.

If you have a Mac and a Zune, please do try this at home and let us know what happened!

EDIT: Some time ago PlaylistMag had tried to use Zune with "Parallels" virtualization software. They didn't have much success, Zune wouldn't connect. If anyone tries it and succeeds, you know where to find the contact form :)

i tried it and now i have windows vista on my mac. works great with zune software and connects beautifuly. If someone is having trouble linking the zune to the program make sure you installed the vmware tools under the virtual machine menu, without these installed zune will not connect.

Zune connects but won't sync
written by ben, October 03, 2007
I have the trial of Fusion running Windows XP and a Zune. When I connect the Zune to the VM it loads and begins to sync. After about 20 songs it hangs and the Zune switches from Synchronizing to Connected. I then have to Stop Sync in the software. This happens even if I completely delete the Zune profile and try to sync it to a formatted Zune. Any ideas? Were you able to sync a new library or just updates/small amount of songs?

The images hang, bluscreen on zune conection...
written by Sky$Unix, December 04, 2007
I have had the same Problem that i had with the linux and zune. when i plug the zune into the vmware image the windows xp pro sp2 hangs up/bluescreens. (the same thing that happens with linux) i tried to run the command to slow the usb 2.0 down to 1.0 like on linux so it would run but with no luck. mac will not accept the command for it is dangerous. this is a mac safety thing... idk if anyone knows how to fix this of if it is time to drop the zune and make a full mac conversion... Help plz!!!
