Zune plays nice with the Labels Print E-mail

Chris Stephenson, Zune's marketing manager, said yesterday in Hollywood that Zune tries to differentiate from iPod/iTunes by cooperating in a positive and proactive way with the record labels. Apple hasn't been very kind to them, so Zune will try to fill this gap...

"We want to be positive and proactive, and we are very much in lockstep with the industry," Stephenson told the crowd at the Music 2.0 conference yesterday. "If that is a major shift in what [the labels] have experienced with our competitor, that's good. We're trying to build this together."

Then he went on to talk about the Wifi sharing restrictions and the 3d/3p system:

"The labels are very cautious about it at the moment," Stephenson said. "Nobody wants three days, three plays--nobody wants to be that restrictive. So there is too much restriction at the moment, but we're trying to find that balance."

While on this, has anyone solved the mystery why some tracks of the same artist can be shared and others can't ?
