Zune PodCast unofficial support Print E-mail
Written by Kostas Tzounopoulos
Sunday, 19 November 2006

FeedYourZune PodCasting SoftwareIt only took 5 days for the first unofficial program that supports PodCasts in Zune to appear. Thats nice. FeedYourZune claims to be the perfect companion for your Zune in the new era of PodCasting (we really need to rename this thing to ZuneCasting!)...

We found on FeedYouZune.com the way to add support on your Zune Software for:

  • Automated download and syncing of Audio and Video Podcasts.
  • Full featured RSS video playback. Supports all video formats.
  • Discover thousands of amazing Video and Audio Podcasts with the built in Channel Guides from Network2, FireAnt, and more to come!
  • Open web architecture - supports RSS, BitTorrent, and Blog Permalinks.
  • Create playlists, favorites, manage disk space, and more.

FeedYourZune is a simple PodCatcher. You will not find here things you can't do with others. This is also its power. Its comes ready to support Zune out of the box with a trivial installation and nothing to configure. You select or add a PodCast channel and FeedYourZune does the rest.

When you have finished downloading your podcast you can also open it with the Zune software and view it. Check the screenshots below from our first contact with the software.

Other podcast options
written by Mark in St, Louis, November 20, 2006
If all you want is to download podcasts and transfer them to your Zune, you can do the same thing with only a little more work with Juice (formerly iPodder X). You can download it at http://www.ipodder.org. Once you've set up your podcasts, it's easy to direct the Zune software to check your podcast directories for new files.

Other PodCast Software

Mark in St, Louis: There are many programs that can do this. But FeedYourZune doesn't need any intervention from the user. And its the first program we found doing this.

Nice Keyboard
written by Al, December 19, 2006
Hey that sure is an attractive keyboard that this woman is playing with in your posted pictures. I wonder who makes such a nicely designed computer component? It sure looks very user friendly. I bet whoever makes it really has the consumer in mind instead of the goal of running others out of business by push marketing cheap crap.

mac fanboys listen up

I have had a 60GB iPod video for a long time now. Despite initial problems getting it set up due to a poor installation system, and the incredibly time consuming conversion of videos to quicktime, it has served me well. Codec issues have been a major issue for me however - converting stuff to put it on your portable player is a time consuming, error-prone and lame process.

I got the zune to see how it stacked up. In my opinion it is already better than the ipod in several ways. First off, the hardware is smaller than the iPod video, the screen is bigger, and it has radio support (somehow it know the station and the song playing, I dont know how it does that!) But more importantly, the software is WAY better than iTunes, which is a piece of CRAP. iTunes is constantly hanging and has the worst library management interface I have EVER SEEN. The iPod itself is a ground-breaking and well-designed piece of equipment but iTunes ruins it for me. Managing playlists is ridiculous. It will not monitor directories for changes to your library. It doesnt even sync correctly for me. The Zune software is the best media library management software I have ever seen. It is fast, even with tens of gigs of media files. It DOES automatically update when you add files by using watch-folders. Syncing is easy and fast as hell. Conversion can happen in the BACKGROUND automatically so syncing is near instantaneous. The only feature missing for me is podcast support which is easily added using FeedYourZune (free). So far I am very very impressed with Microsoft's freshman offering in this area. Mac fan boys can bitch and moan all they want - the big boys have come to play in the portable player market and they actually know how to write software, not just make pretty keyboards and users who think they are better than everyone else because they pay more for less.

Bye bye iPod. Mines for sale, anyone want to buy it?

@unbiased

No seriously, you don't love your iPod? Mine just broke! And since I only watch podcasts off iTunes, I would have no problem with Quicktime.
What kind of videos ARE you watching.
