Zune Software installer bug Print E-mail
Written by Kostas Tzounopoulos

Of course you have read about FLX. He is the guy that bought, 3 days earlier than the rest of USA, the Zune from a BestBuy store. But the God of retailers punished him and he couldn't install the Zune Software. Or maybe it was a Zune installer conflict with international versions of windows?! Read more...

EDIT: we have a how-to fix this.

FLX and others in our forum, had problems installing the Zune Software. What did they have in common? International versions of windows! Although we managed to install it without problems on Greek windows XP, it seems that its not the case for everybody.

The solution was posted by FLX who got it from some guy named Michael from Hamburg, Germany.

First of all download and install this update from Microsoft: http://tinyurl.com/7880q . This a Media Center Update. If this does nothing go on below.

You have to add the user groups: USERS and INTERACTIVE on Windows XP and add your account to these groups to get the Zune installed.

EDIT: FLX posted a sort guide on our forum:

Windows XP Pro

Here is a small guide for adding the USERS and INTERACTIVE groups.

1. right click on my computer -> manage.
2. then click on local users and groups and click on groups.
3. right click at groups and choose "New group..."
4. type in USERS  as group name.
5. in the members field, click on the "Add..." button.
6. enter you username and click on "Check Names"
7. click OK to add that user
8. click create when you are done with adding users

Repeat the same steps for creating the INTERACTIVE user group.

Michael M commented that on Windows XP Home edition you can only do it using the command line, with the net command. You can open a Command Prompt: Start -> Execute -> cmd .

Windows XP Home (or Pro)

net localgroup USERS /add -> enter
net localgroup INTERACTIVE /add -> enter
net localproup USERS "User-Name" /add -> enter                 (e.g. net localgroup USERS Michael /add)
net localproup INTERACTIVE "User-Name" /add -> enter

Thats it.

If this does not work and you have the group interactive you can delete this group:

net localgroup INTERACTIVE /DELETE
and add a new one.
